Here is the short version of the meeting minutes.
Buck Ray from ODWC talked about the Spillway repairs and putting 10 logs in for habitat restoration. Also that he will be working to get the Rereg cleaning project funded.
Jim Miller, Beavers Bend Park supervisor, said that the funding for the new footbridges has been received and the plans are being made. These will be suspension style bridges that start and end further from the creek’s edge.
Teri Pearce agreed to work with Frank Griffith, BB State Park naturalist, and the Boy Scout troops to get to the park and help clean and work on the park for their activities. This is coordinated through the Park Rangers.
Danny Black gave a report about the repeater tower for the Park. It appears that the funding is in place and SWPA is willing to have the repeater on their tower which is bext case for maximum coverage.
Robert Woodruff, Advisory Board member, discussed the need for “restocking” insects in the upper end of the river. IE-Spillway Creek and Zone 1. He agreed to donate his time for a date TBD to complete this project. The Foundation will ask volunteers to help when a date is determined.
The drawing for the Lewis Barringer handmade bamboo rod was held. $860 was raised for the LMFRF through raffle tickets purchased. Thank You Lewis!!!!
Teri Pearce was the lucky winner and couldn’t wait to try out her beautiful new rod.
The next drawing was for the members who fished the One Fly and attended the meeting. It was for a two night stay in Board member David Dillow’s cabin Cozy Corner. The winner was Eric Jackson. (Hey, that’s me!!!!)
Linda King asked for Streamwatch volunteer help during Springbreak. The Streamwatch program helps us make people not familiar with the regs more knowledgeable about the laws governing our river.
The LMFRF approved funding $3000 for the 2011 Kid’s Fishing program that the Broken Bow schools run. It has been a rousing success and continues to be the highlight of the year for so many kids. They earn the privilege of going by completing assignments in school.
55th Annual Oklahoma Youth Forestry and Wildlife Camp funding was unanimously approved for $2000. Pat Waters will coordinate our volunteer efforts on this. The event will be 6/7 & 6/8 this year. Contact Pat to assist with this program.
Eric Jackson discussed our increased internet presence and the current success of reaching our members and others through the website, Facebook and other venues.
Tony Kirk is continuing to work on getting the safest, disease free trout eggs we can before planting them. The Vibert Box program was approved by the board for another attempt this year and Tony will coordinate this with the ODWC as needs be.
Pat Waters mentioned that little has changed in the status of the Re-Reg Dam cleanout project. Various options have been studied and we need to gain approval for funding from the state. Pat continues to champion this project.
Also during the meeting we elected Patrick Waters as the new Chairman of the Board for the Lower Mountain Fork River Foundation. Pat has worked hard for the foundation and continues to be a driving force, physically and philosophically, for the betterment of the trout fishery on the Lower Mountain Fork River.
New Board members introduced at the meeting who were elected in September 2010 are Lawrence Cross, Bill Leinberger and David Dillow. We are very happy to have them on board and look forward to their input and help with the Foundation.
