Lower Mountain Fork River Foundation Meeting Minutes

June, 2007

by Sandy Maris, LMFRF Chairman

1. The cold water project was discussed and the ODWC will be running tests in mid-July. one of the things that must be determined is how large a compressor will it take to force the cold water up to the intakes. there will be additional monies needed to actually buy the compressor(s) and put down pads for them.

2.  There was much discussion about the poaching/illegal fishing at lost creek/evening hole.  it was decided that we would try to organize a volunteer "stream watch" and try to involve the various fly fishing clubs for particularly busy times, like spring break/memorial day etc. the idea would be to walk the stream and remind people of the regulations when we see violators.  joe lanza agreed to be the point person on this project. i am having cards printed up that we can carry and pass out. the cards will also be available to folks stopping at the fly shops. i hope to have the cards to jesse and sid by next week at the latest.  the cards have the red/blue zone regs on the front and a red/blue map on the back. they pretty much track the language of the current signage to avoid confusion. the cards were suggested by mike love and any of us can carry a few anytime we are on the river.

3.  We approved funds (that will get 3x1 matching) for a supplemental stocking of 14" minimum trout exclusively for zone 2. this is to replace the ones everyone thinks got washed out by the recent high water/generation. i think we approved $1000 as our part.

4.  Tom atwood reported on his project repairing the rearing pens and that seemed to be well in hand.

5.  Pat waters reported on his work with the corps. and ODWC to eventually clean out the tubes at the re-reg dam. both groups are in favor of the project and are trying to figure out a safe way to go about it.

6.  There was a general discussion around the notion that once the cold water project is fully implemented, we should not just rest on our laurels, since there is much left to be done. in that vein, i hope to have some more info on the use of vibert/whitlock boxes to hatch brown trout eggs for the October meeting.
